The best ingredients for mature skin care

pom1In the world of beauty, ‘mature’ is polite-speak for ‘wrinkles.’ Fortunately, or not, my present skin priorities mostly involve acne. However, an ounce of prevention…and all that jazz. That said, when you’re making plans to mix up the most divine skin oil, serum, cream, masque, or moisturizer ever, kindly consult this list of oils that are particularly friendly to mature or maturing (we’ll all be old some day) skin:

cKc Giveaway – Try it, then name it!

A while back, Lise asked for your help naming this product. It is a finishing product especially formulated for coils, kinks and curls, designed to seal in moisture and add a touch of gloss. Me and a couple of the cKc testers have been giving it a whirl, and we’re all loving it bigtime.

But let’s be honest, it is incredibly unfair to ask people to name a product they haven’t even tried.

Just plain downright unfair. There’s only one way to solve this. Let’s get this product into the hands (and heads) of some curlies!

The best of the best Mixtress resources!

I’ve been a  Mixtress for about 2 years now. Sometimes my recipes are totally kick-@$$, and sometimes I have my @$$ kicked. Royally. Nothing teaches like experience, but it certainly helps to at least begin with sound guidance and research. A heaping scoop of patience and a few pinches of humility are also handy. That said, I’ve been asked numerous times about how I go about developing a DIY beauty recipe. While I draw information and inspiration from many sources, I’ve attempted to capture the ones I use most often in this list.
Some resources are focused on hair care, while others have more of a skin care slant. Some are very wonky and feel like chemistry class, while others approach cosmetic formulation in a layman like way. Regardless, one thing is for sure—there is a growing community of Mixtresses out there, all who for one reason or another have literally taken matters of beauty into their own hands. So go ahead. I dare you. Take a peek behind the green curtain. But be forewarned, once you go down the rabbit hole, you will never look at off-the-shelf beauty products the same.

What is an essential oil?

Imagine taking the refreshing aroma of a whole peppermint plant and putting it into a tiny bottle, or the heart warming scent of rose petals into a single drop. Essential oils are produced naturally by all sorts of aromatic plants and we’ve learned how to extract these oils for fragrance and therapeutic possibilities through the art of distillation.

Aromatic plants create essential oils for a variety of reasons and can be found in multiple plant parts from roots to flowers and fruit peels, leaves and twigs to grasses. They are produced for protection from predators (animals or insects interested in snacking on the plant) or to attract those helpful critters and crawlers who pollinate and propagate.

THE BEST OF LOLAZABETH.COM

Argan oil is the miracle your hair has been waiting for. At least that’s what hair care manufacturers would like for you to believe. This rare oil from Morocco has been on the beauty scene for  a minute, cropping up as the mane (pun intended) attraction in quite a few products. So what’s the deal?
