Beauty under the influence: Tequila-Soaked Watermelon Wedges + Sherbet (Sunday with José)

Tequila-Soaked Watermelon Wedges, tequila Sherbet Then there was the time that I passed out and landed on the wooden door threshold—I had a vicious bruise for weeks. Looking back, seems like many of my tequila experiences from days of yore ended badly. I’ve since learned to drink in moderation, and appreciate tequila for its taste, and not just for its ability to take you from sober to trashed in 60.2 seconds. My good friend, José stopped by for Sunday supper, and everyone is still standing:

The picture of this treat is all over Pinterest, but it never linked back to an actual recipe. After digging around on the interwebs, I finally found the recipe at Martha Stewart (but of course). This is super eaze to make, (somewhat o_O) nutritious, and made me forget that there were only precious few hours left in the weekend.

Tequila-Soaked Watermelon Wedges

Ingredients

  • 1 small seedless watermelon, red or yellow, quartered and cut into 1-inch-thick wedges
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup tequila
  • 1/4 cup triple sec
  • 2 limes, halved or cut into wedges
  • Flaked sea salt or coarse salt
 Directions:

2. Bring sugar, water, tequila, and triple sec to a boil in a small saucepan. Cook, stirring, until sugar dissolves, about 1 minute. Let cool slightly.

3. Pour syrup over watermelon wedges, and refrigerate for at least 45 minutes.

4. Remove watermelon from syrup, and arrange on a platter. Squeeze limes over melon, and season with salt.
I was so enamored with the way tequila so easily pairs with the sweetness of watermelon, that I made this for desert:
Tequila Sherbet (adapted from a Real Simple recipe)

Ingredients

  • lime slices
  • sugar
  • lime sherbet
  • tequila
Directions:
Tequila Sherbet
1. Rub the rim of the margarita glasses with a lime wedge.

3. Fill the glasses with 3 scoops of sherbet.

4. Pour 2 tablespoons of tequila over the sherbet. Garnish with a lime wedge, and serve with a spoon.
Mercy, these are good Sunday treats!
Are you a tequila fan? How do you take your poison?

[...] October 7, 2012 in body care recipes, body scrub, skin + body care with 0 Comments Pineapples are a pain in the arse to cut, but if nothing, I’m a gal who takes her pleasure seriously. Pineapples are no exception. I got this at the farmers market, making sure the leaves were fresh and green with a firm body. I had visions of juicy, sour chunks tickled with my beloved tequila simple syrup. [...]
